Idea

I posted this under “Suggestion Box Rules” in…where else? The suggestion box. If you dont feel like reading it, you can try this old post (although its probably not much shorter), which is very similar but in a list form. Click more to read my actual suggestion.

Before I get to far into this, I want your critical feedback! Last ngiht I came up with this random idea for a MMOSSG, which I believe the current closest incarnation of which is Eve Online (Which really isn’t close). Basically, it is a new idea that hasn’t really been tried before. But before I go any further, I want you to rip the basic idea apart. Just go ahead and say everything wrong there could possibly be in it. No need to have mercy!

Have fun. :)

The first contest is nigh! Go HERE for the rules and HERE for the contest! And, And look at Maestro’s comments below! :)

In case you have not noticed, there is a new forum!

Contests

Looking to win a TPC? Maybe some other loot? Check here for any active contests run by the Staff!

Cool, eh? Well, I guess staff will be running contests via the forums soon! Exciting, but I think the idea is best situated as part of Tiki Island.

Wouldn’t it be cool if there was a place where you could just do contests and such? Yep, it would be a contest place! Yeah! Basically, it would have:

  • Caption Contest
  • Art Contest
  • Story Contest
  • Various Game Contests
  • Guess The Picture
  • Various Other Contests

Each one would cost a bit of TT to enter, but there would be a prospect of winning great prizes! Exciting, is it not? Well, do comment!

I have said before that most of the problems with the spirit system could be fixed if there was a viable way to trade spirits between users. And here we go with an idea on how to do it!

First off, in order for this to really have any value, spirits would need to be either customizable or a good battle system would have to be in place. (Or both!) Otherwise, the only reason to trade spirits would be to get them off your hands, and with that logic nobody would want them.

Also, in that regard, there would generally need to be more spirit types. Most of these types would have to be acquired through quests and challenges, which would also help make trading spirits a good option. Yep. In addition, it would provide a more unique element to the site.

Now, on to the idea:

Looking at the recent items, I have noticed that many of them are the same thing, but in different colors. And that is perfectly fine! But what if you see an item, but it is not in the correct color? How will you get the correct one? While this may not be a problem now, as more items get released the chance of any particular item or color restocking will go down.

So, why not just have a Paint Shop where a user could put an item in, see what other colors it is in, then pay a small fee to “paint” it a different color? Cool, eh?

Overall, this would be something I think staff could accomplish quite quickly. And, for the heck of it, why not sell wall and floor types here as well? (They make no sense in the furniture store.) Overall, I think it would be a unique and useful addition to the site. What do you think?

Recently, it has become obvious that Mr. Tiki is making some serious changes, some good (Community Assistance) and some bad (The loss of Sputnic). It is also obvious that from the very start, Mr. Tiki has had a very odd beta. (If that beta sign wasn’t in the corner, you would never know.) And, because of that, many parts of the site needs some serious tweaks and need to work together better.

According to our recent survey, most people really would rather staff fix up what they have rather than add new stuff, and isn’t that what beta is for? to make what you have work well and better? I think Mr. Tiki could really do better if they had a real beta. Here is how it would work:

  • Like the suggestion box, users could post ideas on how to tweak the site to make it better, or general problems with the site. (IE: Buying items doesn’t effect meter.) Other users could comment, report, and vote upon these suggestions. Staff can also update the status of the issue (IE: Fixed, In Consideration, Not Gonna Happen, etc.) This would help fix many inconsistancies wiht the site and generally make it better.
  • Like many betas, staff would be much more open and share ideas with users more. (Which it looks like they are going to do.) Users would comment on ideas before they are widely released. This helps fix problems before they start, and makes sure users get what they want.
  • Staff would occasionally do polls to find out what users want/think. Again, it helps fix problems before they start and lets users get what they want.
  • New features would be halted until everything is else is perfect or stated for reconstruction. (Like battle, for instance.)

See, all simple ideas that would really help the site! (And help fill Woo Job Center!) :P Do comment!

With all the drama surrounding Scrabble (TM)(C)(R) on Facebook, it is quite obvious that people like to play games and communicate using the popular social networking agent. I think that by including Mr. Tiki games and profiles within the site, through apps, Mr. Tiki can greatly increase its audience and let its users show off their favorite site!

First off, Mr. Tiki would allow users to put Mr. Tiki flash games on their facebook pages. In these games, you cannot send your score, but every player will see an in-game personal high-score list showing the top-five players from their profile! (That can be done, right?) Cool, eh? A link for Mr. Tiki would eb there, so yay for free advertising!

Next, profiles! Each profile would list the person’s user name and have three tabs: Spirits, Scores, and Journal. In the spirits tab, a picture of a spirit with its stats, name, and equipment would be shown. On either side of it, there would be arrows, so all of a user’s spirits could be shown. In the scores tab, people can see personal game high-scores! Yeah! Same with the journal tab, but with quests! Yay!

Overall, I think once staff get the time, all this could help the site and its users. (Heck, maybe they would even work with the trash heap that is MySpace!) :P Do comment!

Yes, I gave homes a hard time, but you have to admit, all my points were true! Now, behold, as I fix all the issues with Tiki Homes, and add some new functionality!

Here is a little known fact: Dweedles wrote the very first Mr. Tiki story, not Kinh! Who would have known! In addition to being able to turn into an old french woman for the podcasts, he is a great writer! Now, we all know Kinh is a great writer too, but who is the BEST writer?!?

I propose the MTT Your Content WRITE OFF! Both Kinh and Dweedles would be challenged to write an 800-word-or-less story than Tiki Mail it to me. They will boht be published, then YOU would vote to see which staffie has the best skillz!

Of sourse, this would be just for bragging rights, I’m not giving staff prizes. :P But, I do think it would be fun to inject more work into their schedule, don’t you? For funz? Well, comment what you think? :P And now for a fake chinese proverb!

It is hard for a young immature grasshopper to appreciate what is invisible.

All over the virtual pet-related boards, I see two things:

  • People hate sites with lack of updates.
  • People looking for sites to hire them and sites looking for people to hire.

And, basically, I think that the first is true for Mr. Tiki, but the second could help them! How?

Well, sites that use multiple artists/programmers (IE: More than two) seem to get content out a lot faster. And, I think, if Mr. Tiki used some of these talented people on their own site they could speed up the release of many things, thus allowing Mr. Tiki to update more and make people not hate them for not updating! (Did that sentence make sense?)

Many of these people offer their services for a nominal cost or a non-drastic fee. If you are lucky, you may find someone willing to do stuff for free! Basically, for very little Mr. Tiki could speed up production a lot.

I think this would be a good decision to do, because these semi-staffies could help staff with the non-major stuff: page headers, items, small programming things, etc. that would really help the site. And we shouldn’t have to worry about the art style changing, because we have two artists already and you can’t tell their work apart at all!

What do you think? :P

Forget the Tiki Chronicle, why not go for magazines? WOOT! Well, why now? Well, because we were talking about them on the boards! Yeah!

38 combined users on at once! W00t! NEW RECORD! Why is this? Are you guys advertising?

On BBMMO, I got to see what new users think of the site. One thing I saw was that prices were too expensive for new users. Can it be fixed? YES! How? Well, staff would have to change the prices to be not too expensive for new users and not too cheap for experienced ones.

To do so, I think a 25% price reduction is in order! Cooleo! Simple for the staff to do, I would think! Yeah! So, do it! It’s quick, it’s simple, and it would help to not tick off new users.

Also, while you are at it:

  • Create an introductory Tiki Mail for new users in addition to the welcome one. It would introduce them to basic site info (How to earn lots of TT) and point them in the direction of stuff they would not usually find quickly themselves (quests).
  • Fix the totem system. Make it take three days of all three empty bars for a spirit to totemize. Usually, things don’t lose the will to live that quickly.
  • Please, I implore you, make plot-related items untradable. Now. People shouldn’t be able to buy their way through a plot.

See, eh? Simple! Woo! Now do it! Also, welcome all you new users! *points to help guides up above* Welcome to Mr. Tiki! :P Do comment and share ideas!

Yeah, spirit races are a mess. Possibly because it was developed within a very short time, but yeah, it is a mess. Why nor fix it? And yes, I am off schedule, but forget the schedule!

Sorry, no Club’s Redesigns today. I figure with the cliffs of Doom coming there will be to many posts with that involved. :( And I’m tired! I’ll make it up with this. :)

HAHA! Look at the Neopets bar fail! :P

Addictng Games is a website where people go and play flash games. Cool, eh? Well, Mr. Tiki has flash games! And good ones at that! What if a few, or even just one, were added to this site?

Instant Success! How, well, I think the Mr. Tiki games are good enough to make it to the top of their homepage. Once there, it will be subjected to almost 2 million page views. Wow. Mr. Tiki traffic would go up by probably 100x (most likely more).

If a second ad were added, here is my estimated profits: $20,000 a month. That with just the minimal 100x increase, minimal current monthly ad revenue estimate, and second ad included. Wow, how many part-time staff could THAT buy? A lot. Wow. But it gets better.

Addicitng Games gives an option so that if their logo is placed on the game somewhere (with a link), Mr. Tiki can get some of the advertising revenue the site generates from that game. That’s a lot more money! What if they did this with even more than one game? Just, wow. Its a lot. really. And the best part is that Addicting Games is owned by the same company as Neopets! HAHA!

There is some downsides, though. Our close relationships with staff and close-knit community would almost instantly die. Oh, and the site would probably also instantly go down. Staff would need to spend a lot of their money on a new server. :( But overall, it would be worth it to quickly catapult Mr. Tiki to success.

So, what do you think? Do comment and share ideas! :P

Yeah, right now it is a mess. Basically, I am not redoing the whole My Goods, just the inventory! Click “more” to read it all!
